Catapulting science and marshmallows to new heights in grade 8!

As an inquiry project in Mrs. Cey's grade 8 science class, students were challenged to design and construct a catapult that would launch a marshmallow the furthest. Some tof the limitations were: it had to fit through a classroom door, it would launch a marshmallow a minimum of 20 feet, and the device had to be constructed with safety in mind. After much design, redesign, trial and error, the students excelled at this project! Some future engineers perhaps?!

In their self reflections, students could describe design and construction modifications they would make if they did the project again. They learned about trajectory, equal and opposite reactions, and other physics principles. Moreover, they accomplished this challenging hands-on task with smiles on their faces!

CTS Digital Media creation

Students in Mrs. Stromberg's digital media class are learning to use the Stykz program. This particular video, created by grade 11 student Will F., has 3906 frames at 20 frames per second and took about 12 hours of class time. That is patience and talent!

Kitscoty 500 car race in Mr. Lee's grade science 7 classes.

Once again Mr. Lee has the great Formula 500 Kitscoty Car race in his grade 7 science classes. Each student designed and built a car to be run in the distance race. It was amazing to see the creative and imaginative designs produced by the students. Simply give them a challenge and the opportunity...
